Recognize the Pattern, Rewrite the Story
A gentle guide to understanding yourself, breaking repetitive cycles and making conscious choices.
Awareness is where change begins.
Understanding patterns
A pattern is a loop we repeat, often without noticing. When we can see the loop, we can gently step out of it.
- 1
Trigger
Something happens — a message, a tone, a memory, a feeling in your body.
- 2
Thought
A quick story forms: "They're upset with me" or "I've failed again."
- 3
Emotion
Feelings rise — worry, hurt, shame, anger or sadness.
- 4
Response
You act, often automatically — apologise, withdraw, overwork, scroll.
- 5
Outcome
The result often confirms the original story, and the loop repeats.
…and the outcome often feeds the next trigger.

This guide is for gentle self-reflection. It is not a diagnosis, therapy or a replacement for professional support. Patterns can come from many places — past experiences, present stress, culture, relationships or simple habit — and noticing them is never about blame. You are never responsible for someone else's harmful behaviour. If you feel unsafe or overwhelmed, please reach out to a trusted person, a professional, or local emergency services.
